Russell Heads is situated at the mouth of the Russell and Mulgrave rivers.  It is a unique sandspit, accessed only by boat, with Mangrove Estuary on one side of the spit and the Frankland Islands and the Great Barrier Reef on the other side.
The community at Russell Heads is comprised of permanent residents and weekend residents.
The Russell Heads Progress Association meets regularly to discuss issues affecting residents and future plans.
